Old Friends and a Few New Ones

I have been very fortunate to share my time and space with some wonderful little beings. Their spirits have brought and still bring me endless joy and unconditional love. I hope I have done the same for them. I thought I would post some of my favorites of them here so that I don't have to sort through hundreds of images on my computer to find them. One might think by now I might have done a photo album........

Watson was with me for almost 15 years of endless, and I mean -endless- games of fetch.

I think he was born with a toy in his mouth.
He was my best boy.

Oh, Dodger! What a body on that boy!
There was never a dull day in my sister's life while he was with her.

Mr. Bonomo's kitten face.

He went through some -very- awkward growing stages. Look at those ears!

And then grew into this beauty.

Bart lived next door and in my house and was Mr. Bonomo's best buddy.
They both disappeared within a year of each other.
I hope they are off on a big adventure somewhere together.
Jack and his first "friend" He was still feeding from a bottle at this point.

He loved watching TV and nascar with the boys next door.

Elvis showed up at my office one day and just moved his bog ol' Tom Cat self in.
He stayed about 8 months before moving on.
Junior was 13 when I rescued him.
He lived with me for about 3 months before deciding he would move down the street into someone else's house. They fell in love with him and allowed him to stay.
My girlfriend found Meeha in her backyard one day. She was skinny and sick and covered with fleas. She took her in then sent her to me. She was the sweetest, tiniest little girlie.
Lily loves St. Francis and used to spend a lot of time starting at him.
It sort of makes sense as he is the guardian saint of animals.
She did a lot of bird watching in the safety of his watch.
Iris and her purple purse. Her purse is her first line of defence against all things scary..
There will be more about this at another time.
There is one face missing and I just realized I don't have any pictures of him on this computer. Rest assured, Elliot, you are not forgotten.

Maxwell's Demon and Me

I swear this is what my thoughts must look like flying around in my head.
I can only hope the background in there is as pretty.

Per Webster's dictionary: "Maxwell’s demon, if it existed, would act as a sort of gate guard by sorting between higher-energy molecules and lower-energy molecules within an enclosed space." That is about as watered down a definition as I could fine. The others boggled and hurt my brain.

So, why am I thinking about Maxwell's Demon and all the junk in my head? Let me explain. I just heard about this little Maxwell guy and he has been entered into the great collection of information I collect in the file folder labeled "dumping zone, don't where to file this" that probably takes up one entire half of the small part of my brain that I use. Hey, we ALL only use a small part of our brains so no jokes, please.

There are all kinds of thoughts that float around in my head at any given time. What book am I going to read next? When will the next Vanity Fair be in my mailbox? Is Angelina really a saint or is she the bitch I think she is? There's always a song or two playing in the background...sometimes so stubbornly so I could scream but have no knob I can grab to change the station. Sometimes I even have to sort through all 300 unlabeled, un-filed Cd's in my disk changer to scratch the itch of needing to actually hear said song. It is -not- a good thing. Do I have milk for my coffee? If I do, did it expire sometime in the last week and can it still be considered "good"? Who will be on Oprah today? Does O.P.I. have a new nail polish that I should be wearing? I can't wait to watch my fake boyfriend Anderson tonight on CNN. Has Britney cracked up again? Is SJP really getting a divorce? Are Martians watching me right now? Yeah, uh huh.

This is where Maxwell's little Demon comes in. I think he must be the caretaker of that narrow little space in my head that separates the "normal thoughts" file from the "special needs thoughts" file. Yes, I do have that kind of file because there are many special needs thoughts and they should be kept separate from the ones that allow me to "function normally" (ha!) in the real world. About those Martian thoughts: they are not so much the green little guy kind of Martians but the E.T. come to visit and abduct on a UFO kind, and are at times the least of my strange musings.

Maxwell played by Mr. Magoo

"Where did these thoughts come from?" you might ask? "Oh," I will say, "They are self inflicted by an after dark obsession of mine."

It started out very innocently. I couldn't sleep. A friend (Hi, Montana Cupcake!) recommended some late night entertainment to keep me company and so it began. In the beginning, I partook only occasionally on Friday and Saturday nights because I didn't need to be up early the next morning. It was fun! It was mind expanding! I was engaging in all kinds of things I was interested in. I fell in love.

That was almost 10 years ago and while I am still in love, this relationship has planted all kinds of "special" thoughts in my head. Will I ever see the shadow people and if I do will I be psychologically marked for life? Where is Bigfoot? If I go hiking, will I run into him and be psychologically damaged for life? Honestly, I am way more afraid of snakes and bugs than Bigfoot so I don't go hiking. I can stop thinking about that one. What about crop circles? Human or alien creations? Will the whole world end in 2012 and will I be psychologically damaged for life by that? Or will the Age of Aquarius begin in 2012 and set us all free but I will be psychologically damaged from 3 years of worrying that we are going to be sucked into some gravity thing that will make the poles shift and we will all be doomed thus missing out on that age of higher consciousness? Or, will the sun spots decide to do their thing again and destroy satellites and micro waves and I will no longer be able to repeatedly reheat the same cup of coffee into oblivion because we have been put on the fast train back to the dark ages? Where is the Numbers Lady? When she talks I know I'm cool. All my numbers add up to a good number, although right now I can't remember which number it is. This is why I need to hear her again. Wasn't she the one who said the New World Order wasn't going to happen because they have a bad number or something? Now, I am confused because isn't it this whole New World Order that has destroyed our economy because they want to rule us? Oh, and how could I forget that Yellowstone Park is going to explode and off about a gazillion people. Tonight I can hear all about what the next 1500 (!) years hold in store for me. OMG, I barely want to know what's going to happen tomorrow. Now you see what I am talking about. *insert the sound of very loud crickets*

There is so much more but I think that's gives you a sneak peak into that particular file. It's not good. And it's all because of George. He tells me when to go to bed. His voice sooths me to sleep and is there in the dark when I wake up to kick off the covers and all the while he is feeding my "special needs thoughts" file. It is all so wrong but I can't help myself. And it's because "I'm listening to Coast to Coast...."

Coast to Coast AM is my night time radio addiction. (You can find it on a radio near you, too!) It has overloaded my mind with strange facts and trivia. It has kept my Maxwell very busy in the hallway between files of thoughts. And so far, my brain has not over heated. This is all to his credit.

This will explain it so much better than I can.

(Blogger has given me a "video failed" box so, please click on the above link and meet UFO Phil and the Coast to Coast song that says it all.)

A Little Bit of Terrific

Seems I'm a bit behind the times in the movie area. I'm not a big fan of going to the movies because I can't do anything else while the movie is playing so, mostly, I watch movies at home. My sister has been telling me about The Adventures of Priscella, Queen of the Desert for some time.
Today, I found it on "instant" Netflix and oh my.....
It is all camp, funny and poignant.
The actors are way beyond fabulous.
It came out in 1994 (on this one, I am WAY behind)
so you may have already seen it.
If you have, watch it again. It will cheer up a "drag" sort of day.
If you haven't seen it yet, go get it and enjoy some great entertainment!
The outfits are fabulous and who doesn't like a dose of
Abba's Dancing Queen?
(If I could stand music on blogs, I would load up that song just to get
my point across so be thankful...)

The actors are wonderful:

Hugo Weaving (The Matrix, Lord of the Rings, etc.),

Guy Pearce (LA Confidential, Rules of Engagement)

Terrance Stamp (General Zod in the Superman movies)

During the 2000 Summer Olympics Closing Ceremony of the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Priscilla was part of a parade of images of Australian popular culture. A refurbished and decorated 1980 Ford Denning (the same make of bus used in the movie) featuring a giant steel stiletto heel which extended from and retracted into the roof -- inspired by some of the scenes from the film -- was paraded around the Olympic Stadium. The bus was also accompanied by several stiletto heels tricycle floats and drag queens donning big wigs as a tribute to the film's international success and the local gay community. (from wikipedia)

Terrance Stamp is amazing in this movie.
No one did drag better than these two.
"You're a little bit of terrific."

To Hollywood and Desert Stars

: Sweet Jody:
Tonight this song came on the cd player and I thought to finally tell you this.: Over all the years that I have heard and loved this song, I have always thought of you. And then thought of me. And then thought of you and me and how we are both beautifully wrapped up in this song. And then I thought of a road trip to the desert and the stars that we still have not taken. I love the ode to Hollywood with the nod to Clark Gable (me) and I love the images that come up about the desert, old western bars and the electric guitar (you). The nod to life as a circus, well, that would be to both of us. How many last bells can we ring before we get out? We need to be more like the elephants and forget to remember. So, click and listen and read. Mrs. Potter's Lullaby is one of the best ever, as are you. We do love our stars, girlfriend.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDRvbqOiEtw

Mrs. Potters Lullaby:

Well I woke in mid-afternoon cause that's when it all hurts the most
I dream I never know anyone at the party and I'm always the host
If dreams are like movies, then memories are films about ghosts
You can never escape, you can only move south down the coast

Well, I am an idiot walking a tightrope of fortune and fame
I am an acrobat swinging trapezes through circles of flame
If you've never stared off in the distance, then your life is a shame
and though I'll never forget your face, sometimes i can't remember my name

Hey Mrs. Potter don't cry
Hey Mrs. Potter I know why but
Hey Mrs. Potter won't you talk to me

Well, there's a piece of Maria in every song that I sing
And the price of a memory is the memory of the sorrow it brings
And there is always one last light to turn out and one last bell to ring
And the last one out of the circus has to lock up everything

Or the elephants will get out and forget to remember what you said
And the ghosts of the tilt-a-whirl will linger inside your head
And the ferris wheel junkies will spin there forever instead
When I see you a blanket of stars covers me in my bed

Hey Mrs. Potter don't go
Hey Mrs. Potter I don't know but
Hey Mrs. Potter won't you talk to me

All the blue light reflections that color my mind when I sleep
And the lovesick rejections that accompany the company I keep
All the razor perceptions that cut just a little too deep
Hey I can bleed as well as anyone, but I need someone to help me sleep
So I throw my hand into the air and it swims in the beams
It's just a brief interruption of the swirling dust sparkle jet stream
Well, I know I don't know you and you're probably not what you seem
But I'd sure like to find out
So why don't you climb down off that movie screen

Hey Mrs. Potter don't turn
Hey Mrs. Potter I burn for you
Hey Mrs. Potter won't you talk to me

When the last king of Hollywood shatters his glass on the floor
And orders another
Well, I wonder what he did that for
That's when I know that I have to get out cause I have been there before
So I gave up my seat at the bar and I head for the door

We drove out to the desert just to lie down beneath this bowl of stars
We stand up in the palace like it's the last of the great pioneer town bars
We shout out these songs against the clang of electric guitars
You can see a million miles tonight
But you can't get very far

Hey Mrs. Potter I won't touch
Hey Mrs. Potter it's not much but
Hey Mrs. Potter won't you talk to me

California Dreamin'

Winter is Fall and Fall is Winter
This is California and the changing seasons:
"All the leaves are brown
And the sky is grey
I've been for a walk
On a winter's day
I'd be safe and warm
If I was in L.A.
California dreamin'
On such a winter's day."
The Mamas and the Papas
I went out for a walk on a winter's day and this is what I saw:

Our season's are different here

but all so beautiful with the changing of the leaves

and the flowers that come to life as one cycle ends

and another begins.

'Tis a lovely privilege.

A rose is a rose has a long history

Some things you may not have known about roses and how they have been as integral a part of our past as they are of our present.

-A rose by any other name... according to Greek Mythology, it was Aphrodite who gave the rose its name.

-Wherefore art thou rose? In the readings of Shakespeare, of course. He refers to roses more than 50 times throughout his writings.

-Leave it to the romantic French to be the ones to first deliver roses. It was in the seventeenth century that French explorer Samuel deChamplain brought the first cultivated roses to North America.

-Roses are truly ageless. Recently, archaeologists discovered the fossilized remains of wild roses over 34 million years old.

-Confucius wrote that during his life (551-479 B.C.), the Emperor of China owned over 600 books about the culture of Roses. The Chinese extracted oil of roses from the plants grown in the Emperor's garden. The oil was only used by nobles and dignitaries of the court. If a commoner were found in possession of even the smallest amount, he was condemned to death!

-1,000 years old. That's the age the world's oldest living rose is thought to be. Today it continues to flourish on the wall of the Hildesheim Cathedral of Germany.

-The rose is a legend in it's own. The story goes that during the Roman empire, there was an incredibly beautiful maiden named Rhodanthe. Her beauty drew many zealous suitors who pursued her relentlessly. Exhausted by their pursuit, Rhodanthe was forced to take refuge from her suitors in the temple of her friend Diana. Unfortunately, Diana became jealous. And when the suitors broke down her temple gates to get near their beloved Rhodanthe she also became angry, turning Rhodanthe into a rose and her suitors into thorns.

-Since classical times, the rose has been a symbol of secrecy. In sixteenth-century England, a rose was sometimes worn behind the ear by servants, tavern workers, and others to indicate that the wearer heard all and told nothing. In Germany, roses in a dining room suggested that diners could speak freely without fear that their secrets would travel beyond the room. The expression sub rosa, "under the rose," is thought to originate in the custom of carving a rose over the door of the confessional in a Catholic church.

-Rose folklore includes stories of the English planting rose bushes beside their front and back doors believing that at night, the evil spirits would get caught in the thorns and kept from entering into their homes. Every morning the bushes would be gently shaken to release the spirits.
