Finally

It seemed as if today would never come.
But it has.
It is here.
We can rejoice.
We have learned.
We have grown.
We will recover.
We will persevere.
We will find the super heroes in ourselves again.

One for the road

Just had to post this...

A Day Of Service

In the service of the rose:
Michelle Obama asked us all to participate in some sort of service activity today. I was fortunate to be invited to "The Rose Lady's" house for her fund raiser held to benefit the Goodwill's Fitness Center. It is a full service gym for the disabled and a wonderful cause. You can read more about this amazing facility here. Nancy, The Rose Lady, offered as her service a three hour class in all things roses. "Nancy's Magical Garden" is home to over a hundred different varieties of the magnificent flower. Nancy has been growing roses for over thirty years and is a wealth of amazing information. It was an absolutely wonderful event.
Our hostess and rose aficionado, Nancy, The Rose Lady
I believe every garden should have a resident princess kitty.
Phoebe is just as sweet and beautiful as all the flowers she reigns over.
Nancy taught us how to correctly prune a rose bush and
how to correctly cut the blooms from them

I will not attempt to remember all the names of these lovelies but
I do remember that they all smelled heavenly.

A Double Delight...and oh so delightful it is.

A Blue Girl

The high maintenance Marilyn Monroe.
It is the most exquisite rose I have ever seen.
It just looks like Hollywood.
Nancy is about to plant some Peace is in her garden.
My hope is that with we will all plant some peace in our hearts,
our minds and where ever we grow.

Thank you Daisy for inviting me to go with you today!
The morning was all I had hoped it would be.
The people who attended were wonderful to meet!

And thank you, Nancy for so graciously opening your home and gardens to us.
I know we all left with many of our questions answered and
are ready to master the rose.
If you would like to contact Nancy with your questions about roses, or
you live in the Southern California area and
would like her to host a class,
you can contact her at: xperdesigner@cox.net.
She also sells bouquets of her lovely flowers so
if you want quality roses,
the kind you can't find anywhere except right out of the garden,
please contact her.
Her colors and varieties are vast.

Happy Birthday

"I say to you today even though we face the difficulties
of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream.
It is a dream that is deeply rooted in the American dream.
I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up,
and live out the true meaning of its creed."

Welcome to Fridays with The New Yorker

I love magazines and I really love magazine covers.
Vintage Vogue and The New Yorker,
vintage and current, are two of my favorites.
Every Friday I will be posting some of my favorite covers
from The New Yorker magazine.
I will begin with a few covers of NYC.
Hope you enjoy them

I have the above cover of my refridgerator.
It cracked me up when I first saw it (Irant and Irate, FUNNY)
although at the time, it was a little bit disturbing as well.
You can see a better view of it here.

And one more for the paris apartment who lives between both places.

You can find more New Yorker covers here.

Old Friends and a Few New Ones

I have been very fortunate to share my time and space with some wonderful little beings. Their spirits have brought and still bring me endless joy and unconditional love. I hope I have done the same for them. I thought I would post some of my favorites of them here so that I don't have to sort through hundreds of images on my computer to find them. One might think by now I might have done a photo album........

Watson was with me for almost 15 years of endless, and I mean -endless- games of fetch.

I think he was born with a toy in his mouth.
He was my best boy.

Oh, Dodger! What a body on that boy!
There was never a dull day in my sister's life while he was with her.

Mr. Bonomo's kitten face.

He went through some -very- awkward growing stages. Look at those ears!

And then grew into this beauty.

Bart lived next door and in my house and was Mr. Bonomo's best buddy.
They both disappeared within a year of each other.
I hope they are off on a big adventure somewhere together.
Jack and his first "friend" He was still feeding from a bottle at this point.

He loved watching TV and nascar with the boys next door.

Elvis showed up at my office one day and just moved his bog ol' Tom Cat self in.
He stayed about 8 months before moving on.
Junior was 13 when I rescued him.
He lived with me for about 3 months before deciding he would move down the street into someone else's house. They fell in love with him and allowed him to stay.
My girlfriend found Meeha in her backyard one day. She was skinny and sick and covered with fleas. She took her in then sent her to me. She was the sweetest, tiniest little girlie.
Lily loves St. Francis and used to spend a lot of time starting at him.
It sort of makes sense as he is the guardian saint of animals.
She did a lot of bird watching in the safety of his watch.
Iris and her purple purse. Her purse is her first line of defence against all things scary..
There will be more about this at another time.
There is one face missing and I just realized I don't have any pictures of him on this computer. Rest assured, Elliot, you are not forgotten.
